Recent Political and Economic Overview of Iran:
At the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 wreaked havoc on the world, profoundly affected the world and hit the global economy. China turned crisis into opportunity, and the manufacturing industry gained more opportunities, but also produced overcapacity. Due to the suffering of US sanctions and slow industrial development, Iran urgently needs to develop its own manufacturing industry. Therefore, it encourages the import of raw materials and advanced equipment that it lacks. There is a huge complementary demand in the China Iran industrial chain. Even though the United States imposes severe sanctions on Iran, the pandemic has led to a decline in Iran's economy, and the trade between China and Iran still reached $16 billion in 2020. Chinese enterprises have a direct investment stock of 5.48 billion US dollars in Iran and have signed new contract contracts of 67.5 million US dollars. In 2021, the trade volume between China and Iran was 95.5 billion yuan, of which 42 billion yuan was imported from Iran and 53.5 billion yuan was exported from China to Iran. China's trade surplus with Iran was 11.5 billion yuan.
According to Iranian customs data, the trade volume between China and Iran in the first seven months of the 1401 calendar year (from March 21 to October 22, 2022) was 17.46 billion US dollars, exceeding the full year of 2021. Among them, China imported 9.18 billion US dollars from Iran and exported 8.28 billion US dollars to Iran.
On March 27, 2021, during Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Iran, he signed the "China Iran 25 Year Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement" with the Iranian government. The signing of this agreement promotes the comprehensive development of bilateral relations and will deepen economic and trade exchanges between the two countries. It is believed that the bilateral trade volume will soon return to the level of over $50 billion per year before the sanctions.
According to Chinese customs data, Iran ranked third in the year-on-year increase in China's export volume of viscose staple fibers (over 10000 tons) in 2021. China's annual export volume to Iran was 12780 tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.99%, with an average export price of 1825 US dollars per ton. The maximum export volume of viscose staple fibers to Iran in 2021 occurred in August, with an export volume of 3499 tons and an export unit price of 1800 US dollars per ton. The highest export unit price for it is in April, with an export unit price of 2180 US dollars per ton and an export volume of 350 tons.
Reasons for choosing the Iranian market:
After the United States imposed new sanctions, only China and India continued to maintain economic and trade exchanges with Iran, eliminating competitors from European and other enterprises.
2. In order to reduce the impact of sanctions and develop its own textile industry, Iran has started to ban the import of clothing and clothing (only allowing the import of raw materials and mechanical equipment) to promote domestic production.
3. Iran's textile and clothing consumption potential with a huge population of 85 million (at least 510000 tons of clothing demand per year), as well as its ability to radiate to neighboring countries such as Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.
